I worked out this rendition of Tom & Jerry from the fiddling of Howard Rains. There are two extra beats in the A part that make Howard's version fun and quirky. Banjo is tuned aEAC#E. Squirrelly Dan and the Cat Mountain Rounders have a YouTube of a squared version of Tom & Jerry that is very much worth the listen (www.youtube.com/watch?v=94w6z8PW8IQ).

This is a sound comparison (limited by recording abilities) of three banjos. I play Twin Sisters twice through on each. In alphabetical order by builder (but not necessarily playing order), they are Enoch Dobson, Fairbanks Whyte Laydie #2, and Ome Flora. Do you have a preference? Can you guess which is which?

It's been a long time since I have composed a tune. This one just kind of popped in my head. It's probably made up of bits and pieces of all sort of other tunes, just like most other tunes I know. Key of G. Banjo is tuned gDGBD.

I picked up this tune from a recording by the Corn Potato String Band. I think it sources to Jim Smoak & the Louisiana Honeydrippers, who also recorded it. Banjo is tuned aEAC#E. What's a deadnin' (I had to look it up too)? It's an archaic term used by early settlers to describe a spot in a densely forested area where the trees have died and the spot can be used as farm land. Generally, white settlers would girdle the trees to kill them, rather the cut them down. At least, this is what I have gathered from reading some old sources.
