This song is not from a single source but rather inspired by the many fine versions I have listened to over the years. These include those by Gus Cannon, Robert wilkens, Willie Mc Tell, Sam Mc Gee and more

Nicely done! Is that clawhammer? It sounds like it, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Cool looking banjo in your avatar picture...is that what you're playing on this, or is it something else?

Thanks Marc,
Yes it is clawhammer with no drop-thumb, I play with the index and middle finger.
The banjo in the picture was an experiment, I made two and sold that one. It's a resophonic thing with a wooden cone which I turnrd on the lathe and the bottom of a beer can. The banjo is not very loud but I did several videos with them on YouTube, you can find me there as bordertownbrown.
The banjo used on this song is also one that I built of local hardwoods. You can see the banjos I build on my web site at bordertownbrown.com

Hi Richard, This is exactly the kind of thing I'm trying to accomplish with the banjo. Are you playing that out of a standard g tuning? Wow, whatever it is it sounds awesome. I've been trying to prove that the banjo is just as good for this music as the guitar, but you've already proven that with this song.

You're travelling up and down the neck very successfully, one of my weaknesses. Interested in banjo construction. I'll check your dotcom address.
