This song is not from a single source but rather inspired by the many fine versions I have listened to over the years. These include those by Gus Cannon, Robert wilkens, Willie Mc Tell, Sam Mc Gee and more

From the Frank Hutichison version of this song, not certain if he wrote this song or not as most of his material was said to have come from some old man. Recorded in 2003 with my old band The Good for Nuthin; String Band, so named while playing a venue for free, someone made the comment "these guys are pretty good for nuthin'" and the name stuck.

Most like the Roscoe Holcomb version of this song though inspired by a host of earlier recordings.

This is a tune I composed in the last couple of days, it is a tribute to those who died and all who will suffer from the disastrous oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf has always been one of my favorite places and I consider it one of our greatest resources. It fills my heart with woe that those who are in a position to improve life for all are mostly self serving and are willing to gamble with human life and environmental destruction for their own greed. This song is played on one of my latert "Mesquite Banjos", it has an 11" mesquite rim with a Texas ebony tone ring, a 24 1/2" scale and is tuned to A minor. Richard Brown

This is my version of the old Steven Foster song "Uncle Ned" Arranged for the banjo and made more politically correct by subtracting and adding content, some of the lyrics came from The Skillet Lickers.
