The Cliffhangers (me on banjo) warming up for the Clifftop trad. band contest 2004. The tune is from Ed Haley, filtered through the brain and fingers of Mark Simos (fiddle). Sorry about the funky compressed sound from someone's MiniDisc recorder; the limiter 'pumps' with the banjo's dynamics.

From a session at Clifftop, Tuesday, 7/29/13. Adam Hurt - fiddle, Beth Hartness - guitar, Brendan Doyle - banjo Recorded by Adam and Beth's friend Paul DeBlois This was a really fun session, and one which I'd like to make at least a yearly habit! Adam and Beth are both lovely people as well as being fabulous musicians, and I can't get enough of playing with them. Being a festival recording, this has the typical festival background noise of other sessions, hollered conversations, etc., but despite that, it came out pretty good, I think. I hope you enjoy it!

From a session at Clifftop, Tuesday, 7/29/13. Adam Hurt - fiddle, Beth Hartness - guitar, Brendan Doyle - banjo Recorded by Adam and Beth's friend Paul DeBlois. This version of Lady Of The Lake, I believe, is from Virginia fiddler Parley Parsons via Paul Brown, who changed the second part somewhat; and Adam's got his own take on it. This was a really fun session, and one which I'd like to make at least a yearly habit! From a wild late night Clifftop jam in 2002. Rich Hartness on fiddle, me on banjo, Josephine Davis on guitar, Karen Falkowski on bass, Jere Canote on banjo-uke(?), maybe a few others, too. (My banjo sounds more "thwacky" than it really did due to the "pumping" of the limiter in the MiniDisc recorder of the person who recorded the session and kindly gave me a copy.)

This is a field recording I made of Maggie Hammons Parker singing solo at her house outside Marlinton, WV in August of 1979.

From the CD "On The Edge" by The Cliffhangers. Fiddle, Mark Simos; banjo, Brendan Doyle; tenor guitar, Jody Platt; guitar, Rusty Neithammer; bass, Karen Falkowski. We got the tune from West Virginia fiddler Mose Coffman, who I visited with Nancy Dols Neithammer and Dan O'Connell in August, 1980.

Rich Hartness on fiddle and myself on banjo, recorded late at night at Rich's house in Greensboro, NC, August 23, 2002. I was getting used to Rich's slightly different timing, and I miss his extra beat at the end of the high part a few times.
