I was in the Navy at the end of the Vietnam conflict and I thank my God for every soldier and every family member who made a sacrifice for this great country.

I wrote this song about the rich man in hell. The tune that came to me for this song was one that I really liked "The Sunny Side Of The Mountain" made famous by Jimmy Martin:

There is an inscription written over the door of a church in Germany with a version of these words written in stone. I wrote a song from the poem and added music to it.

This song is from our Back In The Day Bluegrass Boys C/D "Radio Gems Vol. 3 of 4" I found the lyrics to this song while browsing the internet one day. When I learned it was co-written by Jimmy Williams, I called him to see how the tune went. He said' I wrote it but I can't remember how it goes. I probally didn't do it just as Jimmy and Red did it but I feel good about how it turned out.

My all time favorite singer/ songwriter was Hank Sr. I know that man had a good upbringing. I can hear it in his song writing. Even when he would speak, it seemed like you could hear his mother down in side of him saying; be kind Hank. My son Steven; who introduced this song on our radio program reminds me a lot of the way Hank was.

I found this song on the net and put it on one of our "Back In The Day" radio broadcast. I don't know the authors name. I saw him listed as Bro. Don. I would appreciate it if anyone knows who Bro. Don is. Great song though; written in the spirit of the master songwriters of old. Thanks Bro. Don for the great words of inspiration. *** Steve Miller, Back In The Day Blue Grass Boys

I first heard this song by Red Foley. It has beed a favorite of mine and I included it on our radio shows in 2008 WKBA Roanoke Va. It's on our "Back In The Day Radio Broadcast / Radio Gems Vol. 1 of 4. My good friend Jimmy Williams made the mandolin that I played on this recording. Jimmy is responsible for a lot of the mandolin playing that you hear on the old Stanley Brothers Rich-R-Tone recordings in the early 50's. I travel with him as much as I can these days. We'll be at the Bean Blossom on Aug. 4-6 2011 and at the Troubadour Theatre in Nashville on November 4th 2011 12;00 Noon til Midnight with the Sullivan Family.

I have heard folks say that a Gibson ball bearing banjo is not suited for bluegrass music but I think my 1926 TB-3 ball bearing came out all right on this recording.

I wrote this song about a neighbor who taught me how to play the three finger style guitar when I was just 12 years old. His son gave me the 1954 J-50 gibson guitar that his dad taught me to play on for my 50'th birthday. This is a true story penned just as actually as it happened. This guitar is my favorite one and most likely the one you'll see me playing everywhere I go.

I recorded this song on our radio program "The Back In The Day Radio Broadcast" WKBA Roanoke, Va in 2009. I dedicated it to all of our service men who have kept our great country safe and free. Jimmy Williams made the mandolin for me that I played on this song. Jimmy played mandolin back in the 40's, 50's, and 60's with Paul Williams, The The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, Mac Wiseman, The Stanley Brothers, Red Ellis, his own group Jimmy Williams and the Gospel Grass, and many others. I've been recording and traveling with Jimmy for many years. We'll be at the 13th Annual Bean Blossom Gospel Jubliee hosted by the Sullivan Family on Aug 4-6 2011
