This is an original on our new CD "Heirlooms" available at www.steveandruth.com . Homesick for the Holler (Steve Smith & Ruth Smith) ©Cabin Cove Music (ASCAP) There’s an abandoned, falling down homeplace on the way up the mountain to our home. Once a vibrant, active homestead, the old chimney is still standing but most of the logs are finally giving way, and the valuable wormy chestnut has been pilfered. Someday the rest will be gone, and only memories of the family life once lived there will remain. This tune expresses the feeling of being homesick for the wonderful family atmosphere of the old homeplaces that once permeated so many of these Appalachian mountain hollers.
