A transformation of the slip jig "Drops of Brandy" into a 6/4 reel. These are called "brandy"s in Quebec and Manitoba, so I thought I'd try to make my own brandy!

R.D. Lunceford's great tune "Old Jim Wren" in triple C tuning (gCGCC) inspired me to try to use this tuning to convert a modal, piper's jig, into a banjo reel. I think many tunes will work well in this tuning. Here is the first one I tried, a well-known jig from the blind piper Garret Barry.

An Irish slip jig transformed from 9/8 time into 6/4 time. That makes it some kind of crooked reel? (R.D. Lunceford asked whether I had tried to transform any slip jigs. I hadn't, so this is my first attempt.) My fretless banjo (the one in my picture) is tuned fCFBbC.

Another Irish Jig transformed into a clawhammer reel. This one in E minor, is my version of "Morrison's Jig". The tuning is gEADE (I think this is Cumberland Gap tuning capoed up a step.)

Another modal pipe jig converted into a banjo reel in triple C tuning (gCGCC). The performance is a bit sloppy. This tune (as a jig) was recorded by the Bothy Band. I learned it on the concertina from Noel Hill.

Jig transformed to a reel. Played on fretless banjo tuned ebCFBbC (that's gEADE tuned down two whole steps). By emphasizing the minor notes it becomes a lonesome tune.

One more Irish Jig turned into a clawhammer reel. Like the Cliffs of Moher, its in A-modal. There are lots of jigs in this mode and they all seem to turn into nice oldtime reels. Tuning is aEADE.
