Hello-
I am brand new to this site and brand new to the banjo. So new in fact I haven't played a single note!
For the past couple of years I've had an urge to learn the banjo. Why? No idea! It just seems like a cool instrument. I love the sound and I love the fact that it shows up in not only bluegrass but Irish Punk (Flogging Molly to be precise). I've been a drummer on and off (currently off) for the better part of 30 some odd years and have always appreciated music and the abilities of musicians. So learning an instrument is not something new or foreign to me. So why the banjo? Well, I guess it's quieter than drums and a tad more portable. It seems more appropriate around a fire and in my classroom. And everybody and their mother (including my son) is a guitarist. Guess I just gotta be a wee bit different.
So, yeah. The banjo. I ponied up for a Deering Goodtime 2 from The Banjo Hut and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. My first lesson with a local very respected musician is next Tuesday. I'm looking forward to blogging about my progress and the ups and downs. I hope to hear from you who are reading this and welcome any and all comments, suggestions, warnings and advice.
Cheers!

Happily married father of two. Played drums on and off for 30+ years and now scratching that banjo itch I've had for the past couple of years. Deering Goodtime 2 is on its way and lessons start next week!
