Hi
The other night I was performing for an Australian politician's fund raising dinner. As I was waiting to get up on stage i realised that the crowd was made up mostly of people in Education so I started my act as follows:
"I've been playing the banjo since I was in high school. In the USA you are not allowed to graduate from high school if you can't at least play (strum G to C opening of Dueling Banjos) . As our Principal used to say,"Litracy hain't evathank.".........
I think for a moment they believed me hahahaha

Don Swanson has been playing, performing and teaching folkmusic for decades, in Australia, the USA and in Fiji. He learned his chops from some of the best pickers, liars, and storytellers along the Mississippi River. He has been a regular street feature at the Port Fairy Folk Festival since 1977. Don is a 2 times award winner of the Mortlake Buskers Festival, an award winner of the Noorat Storytelling Competition, and he was even given an award by Deakin University for playing banjo and getting his uni students to sing in his lectures. He now is a regular around the local Warrnambool Irish circuit and volunteers to lead sing-a-longs at local schools. Don is also a private instructor in banjo, guitar and ukulele.
