I'm learning to to play the 5-string on a banjo I inherited from my Grandfather, Herman Daleiden. He played for much of his long life well into his eighties (dixie style). Some of my friends turned me on to bluegrass music back in the late 70's, and I went to the Great Northern Bluegrass Festival at Mole Lake Wisconsin for about 10 years straight until the annual event ended in 1992. John Hartford was one of the house bands (played daily), I also saw Earl Scruggs, John Mccuin (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Bill Monroe, Piper Road Spring Band, Charlie Daniels Band, Pure Prairie League and many many more. I decided to learn the banjo recently and took a class in Seeger style which was a nice starting point with one finger picking, chords and strumming. Now I am attempting to learn the 3-finger Scruggs style from a player in a local bluegrass band, I am hooked and hope I'll get it someday! :) I live in Madison, Wisconsin and I am friends with members of the Cork 'n Bottle String band. We have a little Bluegrass scene here in Madison, which is cool as everyone knows everyone else. I am an experienced Graphic Designer (Mac based) and can layout CD cases, create posters, etc. I work at Full Compass Systems creating advertising for this national music industry retailer, we sell recording gear, musical instruments, etc.
