My first banjo was/is an Eagle-1976 Bicentennial edition that my parents got for me when I had somehow managed decent grades in elementary. It has been through the "mill". Not much but it's sentimental. Somehow the head has survived but I am about to replace it. Anyone ever tried to put a decent head (probably fiberskin) on one of these cheaply made banjos? Also, most of the sound seems to come from the cheap aluminum flange. Do you think the fiberskin will darken the tone a bit?
