Hi folks!
I'm NEW HERE on an education mission... in my Fathers belongings I found a Orpheum #3 Tenor Banjo. He must of had it for years... It's not in the worst shape I've seen... But it's NO Sofia Loren either.
I don't play, and its just sitting around. I cleaned it up following instructions from YOU TUBE, as good as I could using Linseed Oil and #000 steel wool to clean the fret board. not too bad for a novice.
In reading these postings, I see that serial #'s are very important. I finally figured out where I think it was hiding, on the inside of Banjo, glued to the sides with the Branding and MFG's name. Also right next to it was stamped or burned into the inside of the unit the Patent #.( Is that correct ?)
After doing some researching around this forum, i found out it was the Patent #, NOT a "production run" #.
Am I missing something? It seems that many posts highlight some sort of identity of the instrument #
What is it that I'm looking at?
If there is some other number beyond the stamped numbers, how can I tell the approximate age on the instrument? Used Value if any? Or any guidance you folks can provide..... Thanks for any and all help you can provide....
