I began playing guitar in 1970, and I began playing banjo in 1992. I grew up listening to Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, and watching/listening to Earl Sruggs on the Beverly Hillbillies and Roy Clark, Bobby Thompson, Buck Trent, and Mike Snider on Hee Haw. Instruments that you play by picking with your thumb and fingers (as opposed to a straight pick) have always intrigued me. I hope I'm able to play well into my old age - there's nothing I enjoy more.
