2 weeks in, and a friend who is giving me some direction in starting off has had me working on muscle memory with a 32514251 roll. With the right tempo, it's the dum-pa dum-pa dopey sounding horse walking music... and it's stuck in my head to the point where I am making up lyrics to it as I sit and roll through repetition after repetition. But I can see the logic in it... get that right hand working so well and with no thought to where I can start concentrating on changing cords on the left hand and just let the right hand go. Of course I'll have to go back and practice a new roll when it comes up.
And yeah, I've read all the arguments for and against the different teaching styles... but I've heard this guy play... and if this is how he learned.. I'll follow along smiling to make it to his level.
I'm still looking at some of these tabs though and wondering how in the world I will ever get the speed needed to run through those rolls... and how in the world I am going to get my left hand fingers so I'm not stepping on other strings trying to hit the notes! Darn fat stubby fingers!
Anyone know a good place to get XL or 2XL finger picks? I've gone to the online stores I know of and they never seem to mention size... just gauge.
