Well, I love the sound of the banjo and always wanted to learn to play....never thought I would til today!! I received a Whyte Eagle banjo that belonged to a dearly loved and departed Uncle... I am hoping to get advice from knowledgeable players who can direct me on how to get started, etc...and really, quite honestly I mean from scratch... I have played the guitar in the past but only ever really strummed... any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Long time bluegrass music lover, and always loved to listen to a well-played banjo. I just received my first banjo as a gift from my Aunt... she gave me a banjo that belong to my late and beloved Uncle CB (Cecil Bruce O'Neal) of Thomasville/Quitman GA area.. I am thrilled to have my uncle's old banjo.. just for motivation purposes, I promised my Aunt Tillie, that I will learn to play and will play her a song next time we get together.. She insists that my late uncle would have wanted me to have his banjo and is smiling from Heaven that is now in my care... My Uncle CB was a motivation to me in so many ways and it would make me so proud to learn...so as of today, when my mom delivered to me after a visit to my Aunt Tillie, a Whyte Eagle banjo and tonight I am just beginning to learn the banjo....I know only what I remember from watching him play years ago... two fingers down and that's about all honestly.. I picked it a bit but could really use some guidance from the professionals or anyone willing to assist/motivate/coach/teach me learn to play!! Thanks in advance for any help anyone is willing to provide!!
