Playing Since: 1978
Experience Level: Novice
My Instruments:
1983 StewMac The Eagle Standard open back banjo kit. I completed two make-overs of the instrument from its original kit form: 1) frailing scoop, 2) upgrade all hardware, goat skin head, and Spillway Dam bridge (excellent bridge!!). Also have a 1930s Orpheum 19 fret tenor banjo.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
John Mumford is great on plectrum. I really like the warmth and friendship of Annie & Mac, as well as the Tin Cup Rattlers. I enjoy the no-nonsense approach of Richard Peek. I appreciate the perfection and skill of Aubrey Atwater. Love Mary Z. Cox music.

I play on the praise team at church. Interested in old time and clawhammer style. Open Back and mountain banjo. I originally started learning the three finger Scruggs style in 1978. I learned primarily from the Earl Scruggs book, the Jeff Yates Workshop book and cassette tape, and the Banjo Newsletter. In the early 80's I switched to the clawhammer style. I bought books from Pete Seeger, Grandpa Jones, Art Rosenbaum, Miles Krassen, Eric Muller & Barbara Koehler, and John Burke. After a huge hiatus for family and career, I'm back at it. I also have a 1930s Orpheum 19 fret tenor banjo. I don't know too much about the tenor, but I definitely like that style of music. I'm also on FHO and MHO as Uncle Brad.
