Got my first banjo in 1965, a Kay, but traded it a few years later for a Gibson J-45 in college. Played only guitar until finally making it back to banjo around 1982 when I came across an old Vega tubaphone with a badly fitted replacement neck. Then I built a Stewart-MacDonald kit and later scraped together the money for a Mastertone. Been playing bluegrass with friends, playing out locally on occasion and just lately (2012) started picking up clawhammer style.
