I once had a really great 5-string open back banjo that I had purchased for $50 on the street. I knew it was probably stolen but figured that I'd eventually find out who it really belonged to. Sure enough, I had it about 3 months before someone recognized it and told me whose it was. Boy, was the original owner (and builder) surprised to get his banjo back. Finally, after many years, I've purchased a new banjo to equal the sound of the one I had for that short time. It's a Goldtone 5-string Bob Carlin model BC350 and while it cost much more than $50, I'm confident that it belongs to me alone...

Began learning guitar 1964, Mandolin and Clawhammer banjo 1972. Played bluegrass mandolin and guitar for 25 years in various bands. Now I'm playing my favorite music solo or with my son. Started to actually study banjo as a friend said I was getting "purty good' this last year. Mandolin is my number one instrument, but a good banjo tune can't help but get the feet movin', so I've decided to practice up a bit on the banjo.
