Being a Tarheel by birth, I grew up with bluegrass all around. I heard Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs and many lesser lights play when I was a kid. In spite of all that, I pretty much took bluegrass for granted until just a few years ago, when I discovered that I could pick tunes out on the mandolin by ear. That was all it took to pitch me head first into a mid-life crisis. As part of a program to educate myself in bluegrass and related styles of music, I set up a website called secondcousincurly.com where I could share profiles of bands I admired and occasionally hold forth on topics and questions that might provoke conversation with my bluegrass brethren on the interweb. I'm a filmmaker by training, so one of my chief aims was also to enrich the library of online video related to bluegrass. Virtually all of my web postings come with videos, the great majority of which I have produced myself. The journey has only just started, and already it's been a great adventure!
