I just got a new toy and I need some help. It's a "the gibson" tenor banjo. The only number on it is 11620-14. I was told it's a 1922 ky the guy I bought it from. I'm guessing it's more like a 1924. It has an open back. The pot is hollow in construction, there's a ring that goes around the pot the brackets to hold the head on go into. The whole thing is in overall rough shape and to tell you the truth I really dig the roughness of it. I however need to rurn it back into a player and that's where I need help. Biggest issue is it's missing the tone ring. I believe this is just a rolled hoop but never seeing another one like it haven't a clue. Tried a few local music shops and they don't seem to know much about banjo construction to help either. The outside of the pot is 11" round it then is flat for about a 1/4 inch then steps up a 1/4 inch has block like opening to look into the hollow part of the rim then over another 1/2". Hopefully this is a good enough description for someone to help. I'm thinking in the stewmc catalog there is a rolled round brass hoop for $33. It says its .273 in diameter. Will this work? anyone try it?
