Thanks for the welcome!

Monday, August 8, 2011

In spite of my having inadvertently made a mess of the "new" videos list, the community here has made me feel very warmly welcomed.  Thanks again to everyone who's provided me with feedback, both positive and negative - it's all helpful.  :)

I'm on the road for most of the next two weeks, so responses may be slow, but I do appreciate all the kind words, and I'll do my best to answer the questions I see.  FYI, I've got some detailed info about the banjos and tunings I've used here:

My Instruments:
I have somewhere over a dozen banjos, most of which are somewhat esoteric, and probably only worth a few hundred dollars, but I have two that I use on a fairly regular basis: For my solo banjo material, I use a Nechville Nuvo Graphite; For bluegrass, I play a Deering Golden Era. Favorite Bands/Musicians:
My listening habits vary. I tend to focus intensely on a few things at a time, and then move on, revisiting old tracks periodically. I am currently listening to a lot of electronic dance music.

I got involved with music as a self-taught keyboardist when I was about 8 years old. When I was 10, a dear friend of my family bought me my first guitar and banjo for Christmas, and paid for my first lessons. I've spent a lot of time composing mellow, contemplative music for the unaccompanied 5-string banjo, much of which is available from my web site and/or YouTube channel(s). I also currently play banjo full-time with a band called Monroe Crossing.
