I got the roof framed on the chicken house, got the pieces of corrugated steel cut - good noisy fun with a skilsaw - and tomorrow I just need to put some "spacers" inbetween the cross members, and then start screwing the corrugated steel pieces down. Then with the roof on, I can take the flooring I have in there out, put the work bench I built somewhere, set up something for at least temporary nest boxes, perches, tack up some tarpaper or something for some shelter from the wind, etc. And get "the girls" into there.
The guy at the local egg place uses "chicken nipples". He's using the high pressure kind, a place called Farm Tek uses the low pressure type, but the guy says they can still be trouble, there's no real trouble-free way to water chickens I guess. I went to Tractor Supply and got two feeders that look pretty good, just need caps made from half a milk jug to keep rain and sparrows out, and got two large-ish water bottle things, like people use for hamsters. I've seen a chicken drinking from one at Poultry Farmer's but when I went there, they all have conventional waterers. And conventionally dirty water. I'm willing to try these "hamster" type waterers, the main problem is they don't hold all THAT much water, but I might be able put bigger bottles on them or some kind of reservoir or something.
I need to join Backyard Chickens because I seem to be posting, and involved, the most with those.
Eggs for breakfast!
