I'm retired now, but used to play the guitar many years ago. I had always wanted to learn to play the banjo, so I started a couple of years ago with some BG lessons. After about 3 - 4 months, I decided I really liked the "old time" music and playing styles, so I switched to clawhammer. At this point I feel that I am a solid intermediate player, and I really am having a lot of fun. I play with a jam group once a week, and also with an Appalachain Music Ensemble that plays weekly. My wife and I coordinate the Old Time Jam here in Williamsburg and play for the monthly contra dance.
