Started drums at 9, introduced to banjo at 15. Began teaching banjo around town at 16. Picked up guitar at 17, while still playing banjo in a couple groups here in Central Caly. Studied guitar for a short time at the Faunt Creative School of Music in Hollywood, CA. Also studied classical guitar under Juan Serano at Fresno State U. In 1993 I was hired by the Shady Grove Band out of Chapel Hill, NC to play banjo. Due to emerging spine issues I was forced to leave the Grover's, but continued performing on guitar in central NC. Around the same time I inadvertantly ended up working as a pre/post production audio engineer working on medical/surgical documentary's for Discovery Communications Networks. During this time I produced a 30min spec video called Voices of the Heart in which I profiled the Shady Grove Band (concert footage can be viewed on YouTube by searching Shady Grove Band). Spine issues ultimately prevailed so now, after 4 back surgeries I am back in Caly teaching banjo, mando, and guitar from home as much as I can.
