My banjo story is not unlike many others on this site, sitting there tapping my feet whenever I heard Earl bring on the Beverly Hillbillys. Of course I never thought much of it....but often wished that intro could last as long as the program. Then one day, not too long ago, I was surfing youtube as I often do and there it was. That little snippet of internet heaven was Earl Scruggs picking shortnin' bread on one of those Flatt and Scruggs shows. I was hooked. I played it over and over watching those fingers work their magic, mesmerized in awe as he slid down the neck of that old Gibson. That video led over to Stringbean's video. Pure magic. I was hooked. I surfed for hours playing one video after another. Never has a sequence of notes grabbed ahold of me like that. It was magic. It was pure. It was American. I had to have one. I just knew I would have to learn to do it. I just couldn't shake it. So I bought me a banjo, got Earl's book, and began the odyssey. That was a little over a year ago and a day hasn't gone by where I haven't at least thought of a banjo in one way or another. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
