So I've had my banjo for about a month now. I haven't been playing nearly as much as I'd like-- college can be thanked for that. But having perused and downloaded a mess of tablature from the hangout archive, I'm accumulating a few songs in my (very very basic) repertoire. Albeit I can't play much without the sheet music in front of me, but I can get through a beginner's song. I'm still very excited about it.
Thus far I've got: (fairly well) I Saw Three Ships, Pretty Flowers, Amazing Grace, The Rainbow Connection, (kind of) Edelweiss, Fields of Gold. As well as practicing and improving on all of these, Star of the County Down is what I'd like to tackle next.
Let me recommend: On the "Appalachian Picking Society" (one of my all-time favorites) Alisa Jones Wall plays a beautiful "Star of the County Down" on the hammered dulcimer.
And also, check out this performance by TImothy Seaman. Gorgeous!!

Steve Martin and I have the same birthday, so I figured I had to get a banjo.
