Old n In The Way |
I just recently bought a Mastercraft Classic Mahogany. I've never owned a banjo and other than tinkering around at Guitar Centers a few times I've never really sat down and tried to play one.
I figured why not get one ..... it'll be fun. After all it's a stringed instrument and I've played guitar for close to 30 yrs so how different could it be? Yeah, right. I took it out of the box the day I got it, made sure it was in tune, grabbed a pick and tried to play it like a lead guitar. I was a mess. After about an hour I realized I need to slow down and get to basics and learn this thing right. I was trying to play with a guitar pick for god sake!
I have been poking around here in BHO for about a week now. I have not reached out and communicated with anyone until now. I spent countless hours absorbing the knowledge and advise to be gained here.
On the recommendation of many posts that I read I have since purchased the You Can Teach Yourself Banjo book/cd/dvd by Janet Davis and the Earl Scruggs And The 5 String Banjo book.
I can see that there are good people on this site and I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can.
Thanks and happy pickin' to all!
