Favorite Bands/Musicians:
well I grew up on the blues and rock and roll...with a little bluegrass thrown in there (Robert Johnson, R.L. Burnside, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Ricky Skaggs to name a few), but have a new appreciation for jugband and bluegrass because of my friends in the Downtown County Band. Started taking lessons from a 15 year old who W E A R S the banjo out (she's also a flatpicker!) I am learning more and more about bluegrass music and falling in love with it more everyday! I really enjoy blues on the banjo also.

I am a 7th grade World History teacher. I am also a 'year round' coach. I am the special teams and assistant wide receiver coach for our Middle School football team, and the assistant boys basketball coach. I grew up in a blue collar family, my mother ran her own business until she couldn't afford to buy health insurance, and my father was a tinbender until he had to give that up for a desk job. Have always lived on small farm and now own a few acres and a couple of horses. My family runs an organic vegetable farm and I work there and on another family owned tomato farm in the summers. I keep busy to say the least. I started playing banjo in 2008 when I jokingly said to the music teacher at school that I wanted to learn how to play banjo. She told me about my teacher, gave me a crappy free banjo and, well, the rest is history. I have owned a Fender starter banjo and now I own a Deering Goodtime Special. I play Scruggs style but I am very interested in learning how to play the blues on banjo. I also take guitar lessons and I am learning basic chords at this point. Music makes my world go round and gives me peace in my ever crazy life.
