Ok, here goes, thought I'd write a blog to document my journey to discover the wonderful mystery that is the 5 string banjo and my progress as I go.
After 1 week of practice.
Currently, after a false start, I am trying to do the forward/reverse roll whilst implementing chord changes G,C,D, G. This is after some good advice from The Kidd, thankyou John for your help. Going OK at the moment, but still can't get to grips with planting all the fingers down at once to get the chord sounding sweet. I have taken your advice John and am following it ver batum, irrispective of how bad I sound at the moment.
My problem seems to be that when I'm doing the roll that as soon as I even think about moving my left hand into position the roll goes pear shape. I know this is probably down to the fact that I have to think about the position that I need to be in and that after several days/weeks of practice I should start to move my hand in to position without even thinking about it as soon as my muscle memory kicks in. I'm just explaining where I'm at now. Hopefully these blogs will record some improvement, fingers and picks crossed, as the weeks progress.
Aim for the coming week: Try to do G,C,D,G chords whilst doing forward/reverse roll pattern1 2 rolls per chord.
