Bought my first banjo from Sears when I was 12, self taught folk singer (still have it, recently restored with new tunners and head and it actually plays OK!). Have been busy with life and about 2 years ago had my interest rekindled when I became the custodian of a family hierloom, a 1926 Vegaphone Professional (4 string plectrum model). Restored it and started picking again. Picked up a new open back (a Bart Rieter model from Ederly Instruments in Lansing Mich.) and have been trying to master clawhammer, finally to the point of wanting to jam with others. I have been a folk guitarist for most of my life, play mailnly for my own amusement. I really have been drawn to "homegrown" "backporch" styles of music of late and pickin' and grinin' just feels right...
