Got the Banjo Today!! No case, no strap, just the bare bones Oscar Schmidt OB5. Looked like it was shipped correctly, lots of bubble wrap and bridge removed. I did a close once over to check for cracks, damage and so forth. All looks good. So, I positioned the bridge to equal the same distance from knut to 12th fret, 12th fret to bridge, used an electronic chromatic tuner and tuned up.. Spent about 2 hours on my first video lesson learning Boil Them Cabbage Down, (slowly and only the first several measures). I am happy with the tone, volume and overall apperance. At least that is my first impression. Looking forward to many hours of practice. I do have a G string that buzzes when played open. As soon as it is fretted it stops. I think this may be a knut issue but I am not sure. I plan to ask the local banjo guy about it when I take it to him for a proper setup. I a spoke with my dad a bit about learning the banjo and it turns out he has always wanted to learn! Guess I know what to get him for his next birthday.
