I am a wildlife biologist who became interested in gourd art. I learned to play the banjo after I made my first fretless gourd banjo. I'm still making new gourd banjos, perfecting the design and playing them all of the time. I also made a few gourd mandolins, and in 2011, a new gourd Kora (a 21-string african harp, mounted a goatskin covered gourd). I also have a novel, "Somewhere Upriver," due out by the end of August, 2013 with a main character who is a gourd banjo playing herpetologist.
