Keep on rollin'

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

I spent the vast majority of yesterday evening practicing rolls. I've gotten to where I can do the forward, backward, and mixed rolls with decent speed and accuracy. But the alternating roll still eludes me. I can play it about as fast as I can quote you the strings plucked. I'm gonna keep working on it tonight, as well as guitar.

Right now I'm using Janet Davis' book "You Can Teach Yourself Banjo". With every other instrument I've learned to play, you learn from sheet music, not tablature. At what point do you transition from a string diagram to actually reading notes? How can I help make the connection between what I'm playing on the banjo and how it would look on a page of music?

I'll post the same question on the boards under theory. 3 comments

So it begins...
