I set out over a year ago to make my desire to play banjo an reality. Since then I have picked it up about a dozen times and it sits crying to me in the corner on it's stand. I look at it and apologize with all of my soul and go back to ignoring it. In the meantime school and life has taken over and it became...."I will get to it later". Enough. I joined this group and I find everyone very inspiring. I am so happy to see other female Banjoists. When I first was searching for fingerpicks for my very small fingers, a man at a local music store asked me why I needed them...I responded for my banjo...he laughed and said, "Young female banjo-players...now that's a dying breed" and walked away. So to all you women I see hanging around I am saluting you with great respect and admiration. (I gave up on fingerpicks they always fall off). After I put up a post on the forum here about finding a CH teacher here in Kalamazoo..I was directed to Joel Mabus. I emailed Joel and was so happy to find in my inbox the very next morning a lil' ole email responding to me. I talked to some of the folks at work and realized that I had heard him play on Grassroots several times. My excitement turned into something greater. My dream is about to become a reality and I get the pleasure of learning from one of the best around. To be continued..... 7 comments
