I've been having some fun experimenting with 2FTL. For the last week or so, I've been trying out some very syncopated right hand patterns.
One of the rhythms I'm using runs like this:
" 1 . 2 & . & 4 &"
(The dots are eighth-note rests allowing the prior note to ring and become a quarter note.) With string numbers (all open), E for eighth and Q for quarter:
"3-Q, 1-E, 5-Q, 1-E, 2-E, 1-E"
It sounds a little bit like the guitar intro on the old Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Up Around the Bend".
For variety I replace the 5th string T with an inside string, sometimes fretted. Try this with a D7:
"2-1-Q, 1-0-E, 3-2-Q, 1-0-E, 2-1-E, 1-0-E"
(string number, fret number, time value)
Now if you toss in a partial D, followed by a partial C, and back to G:
"2-3-Q, 1-4-E, 5-0-Q, 1-4-E, 2-3-E, 1-4-E" x 2
"2-1-Q, 1-2-E, 5-0-Q, 1-2-E, 2-1-E, 1-2-E" x 2
"2-0-Q, 1-0-E, 3-0-Q, 1-0-E, 2-0-E, 1-0-E" x 2
You've got yourself a nice little banjo lullaby for the kiddies (or stressed out adults).
