Started in 1968 after hearing Scruggs playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown in Bonny & Clyde film. Originally had a Museema banjo (cheap east european contraption) - did me quite well at first but neck eventually warped so badly that for the past 20 years I hardly played at all. Then started finding bluegrass on You-Tube and got going again. Bought new Ozark RB3 (Can't afford anything decent and American) and have improved it by fitting a Stewart Macdonald tone ring which makes it sound as if it cost twice as much! I don't know many tunes but what I can play is not too bad. I am not what you would call a natural player and almost everything I know has been learned from tabs or by copying other people. Apart from playing banjo, I also drive steam trains, fly radio controlled model aircraft and cycle - my son and I cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats in 2007 (end to end of the UK) - 912 miles in 13 days (with no support vehicle), which I think is not too bad for a 60 year old.
