Hello my friends,
I found out this morning I am required to sell my old property to the State of Louisiana in order to get any help from the Road Home program--administered by a private corp. with ties to LA politicians. Can't do it as already have a lien on it from the SBA and is under contract to my neighbor who lost her home and needs my adjacent property to even drive up to her home--her whole lot is one big dirt pile to elevate her new home.
It will cost me $7700 to keep my word to my neighbor--and cheap at the price.
Nice to know our Federal tax dollars are going to line the pockets of big corporations, rather than helping those who were wiped out by Rita & Katrina.
But, in South Louisiana, we're used to helping ourselves, so we will survive.
On Dec 1 & 2 I moved into my home in Breaux Bridge--after being displaced for 14 months. My old home in the Bigwoods is lost, but I have good new neighbors and I'm grateful to be in a home of my own again.
I've had little time to pick in the past 3 months, what with painting the house and doing lots of repairs, etc. The stress level has been at or beyond the post hurricane level for weeks and I'm one tired woman.
I still have a lot of fixing up to do, and I'm grateful to have help from friends--including my charming 68 year old neighbor with one shoulder and knee replacement and a heart condition--who is determined to help me dig out an entire sewer line and replace it--using a shovel.
That's a true Cajun for you!
What I wouldn't give for a good carpenter and a landscaper who does good work and won't gouge my eyes out!
