finding the melody

im havin a little trouble pickin out the melody of tunes while rollin.i doo well as long as i have tab to look at but im tryin to break away from that.i also seem to do better readin from notatoin but not on all tunes.i have particular difficulty on 3/4 tunes.another thing i have the most trouble with is playing out of closed positions. like the key of d without a capo. for instance i love love the song reuben and play it purty good tuned to d but have seen a couple of folks do in closed position and liked it better.i guess thats two questions at once.oops.appreciate any help. 3 comments
