As a kid, I always loved to hear The Beverly Hillbillies come on to listen to Earl play, so I asked my parents for a banjo. I taught myself with the help of some records from a guy in Marietta, Ga. Played for 34 years right-handed. About 5 or 6 years ago, I started noticing a problem developing that eventually led to me not being able to play because of what I eventually discovered was focal dystonia in my right index and middle fingers. I have been playing left-handed for about 3 years now and it is coming back. It has been a struggle because I still have some trouble on the fretboard with my fingers, but I have figured out ways around it.
