I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaack! I've got a new (relative term) banjo, and it works pretty well for a brand I've ever heard of (Davidson). Of course, I'm fairly green, and not as well versed in the wide world of banjos as I'd like, so my not hearing of Davidson doesn't mean a whole lot. The bridge doesn't sound as rich as my old one (topless Bolivian rosewood, I believe), and the riser for the 5th string is missing, but beyond that, she's performing quite nicely.
I still need to make up my mind about a playing style. Right now I'm playing mostly with my thumb and 4-finger strumming, which I guess is "guitar style," and I can only assume I'd be pelted with rotten produce if I played that way at a jamming session. It's hard not to, though. Scruggs style is quite tricky for me, and I'd have to stop biting my nails to the quick be able to play clawhammer properly. Who knows, maybe I'll become famous and it'll become an accepted style. "A Moose-made style." Has a certain ring to it, don't you think? Or maybe just "oh, I play Moose."
