Started playing professionally in 1960 with Earl Taylor and the Stoney Mountain Boys at age 15. Played 6 nights a week with them at the Kenmill Cafe in Cincinnati, OH for 7 years. Formed a partnership with Jim McCall and played 6 nights a week for 3 years at Kings Row, also in Cincinnati. Joined Jimmy Martin & the Sunny Mountain Boys and played the Grand Ole Opry several times with him and toured across the country to various venues including Las Vegas. In the late 1970s, I started playing guitar and doing the lead singing in my band, Vernon McIntyre's Appalachian Grass. However, I have continued to teach banjo through out the years. Currently, my wife and I own the Famous Old Time Music Company with locations in Wapakoneta, OH and Cincinnati, OH. When we're not travelling with the Appalachian Grass, we sell instruments, teach, & do repairs and appraisals at both stores. In Wapakoneta, we have an indoor concert venue called the Boatwhistle Memeorial Hall and have monthly concerts. We also have an annual outdoor festival in September at the same location called Festival in the Cornfield.
