I'm very excited to enter the banjo world and this community at large. I'm currently searching for that first (well second if you include a real crappy starter and tuning my guitar's 5 strings to banjo tuning for learning) banjo. I've poured over the forum's posts, read as much as I can and have decided I need to save just a little more in order to get something that will cause me to WANT to learn, practice and play. I found that out with a Martin guitar. I tried lots and bought and sold a bunch but now have 2 Martins that are a joy to play. So I'm going to parlay that advice/purchase into a learning experience for the banjo. Working on rolls and fingerwork right now. Not sure if I'll ever get fast enough to play "breakdown" songs but I'm sure I will be looking at hours of enjoyment just the same. I've rambled a little here so guess that's it for now.
