Playing Since: 2007
Experience Level: Purty Good
Interests:
[Jamming] [Socializing]
Occupation: Translator, Musician
Gender: Male
Age: 66
My Instruments:
1910 Lyon and Healy that had half the frets missing so I had them all removed and replaced with a fretless rosewood fingerboard.
Just replaced my Saga (which was a pretty good instrument to learn on) with a Ramsey cherry Standard, and I love it! It's got the deep full sound that I've really appeals to me, and such nice action.
Favorite Bands/Musicians:
There are so many good players around, and I'm kind of here and there in my tastes. I do prefer more traditional sounds but more important to me is the "raw" kind of power in that old style playing, one that often gets sacrificed (imo) when music is over-arranged. As long as that's not sacrificed I enjoy a lot of things. I love the old Appalachian ballads, and have been listening to Tim Eriksen and Hunter Robertson a lot lately.

I'm mainly a player of saz/bağlama, Turkish folk instruments. But I've loved clawhammer since I was young. I borrowed a friend's banjo for a couple months back in the 90s and learned some clawhammer but didn't have my own instrument. I've lived in Turkey for 7 years now and recently started missing banjo music, so I managed to have one brought over, and am having lots of fun learning. YouTube has been an amazing resource.
