My third Mountain Banjo

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

This baby is made completely from mahogany , I believe I am getting much better at building this style of banjo and hope to someday make a living from making them, but even if I don't, the pleasure it brings me is indescribable, will post pictures of it as soon as it's complete. 3 comments

I'm a carpenter and furniture builder for the boating industry with a lovely wife that I've been married to for 25 years, We have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, ranging from 23 years old to 4 years old, I also am a native american flute maker and instrument builder, I've made many strumsticks, cigar box guitars, and flutes through the years and look forward to building many more, would really like to make a gourd banjo as my next project, I've played the guitar since I was 12 years old but have discovered that I really love the old time plunky sound and feel of the banjo, If anyone gets a chance check out William Elliott Whitmore's album "Ashes to Dust", this guy writes music that seems like it's straight out of the civil war era. Also check out Levon Helms new album "Dirt Farmer". Anyway this Banjo Hangout is a fantastic resource and I look forward to participating in it, also check out the new Fiddle Hangout as well. Don A.
