The First Annual Hoppin' John Old-Time & Bluegrass Fiddler's Convention will be at Shakori Hills this September 21 - 22. Come out for old-style band, instrument and dance contests. Satruday clinics will highlight the unique old-time music style of the Piedmont area. Camping begins early on Wednesday at the beautiful 72 acre site offering open space for rvs and tent camping in the woods. The convention also features nightly dances and a special hoppin' john cook-off. Band competition begins Friday at 8 pm after a special performance by The Shelbys.
Band contest categories for old-time, bluegrass and non-traditional stringband, as well as individual categories of old-time & bluegrass fiddle, old-time & bluegrass banjo, mandolin, guitar and folk song, children's musicianship, dance and youth dance, offer cash prizes and/or ribbons. Activities on the stage and in the dance tent, food and music vendors, and spontaneous jam sessions keep you hoppin'.
