Well, here in Oklahoma the deer season has ended and much to my dismay I got skunked. This year I was hunting a new place, and didn't get into the property until about a week before the season started. I had a couple of very close encounters, they were close enough to count their eyelashes, but they were either just behind me or on my right hand side (I'm right handed so the business end of the gun was pointed the wrong way). I saw deer, sometimes several, but none presented an ethical shot. On the very last day of bow season, I saw three (3) deer. The first was doe about 80 yards up the road as I was just starting to walk to my blind. She was crossing an old oil field road and presented a perfect broadside shot and had it still been rifle season, I would have taken that shot. The second deer that day was a buck - would guess 5 or 6 point - about 100 yards away, uphill, and through the trees. Again, had it been rifle season... The third deer, another doe, was in virtually the same place as the buck. I just wonder where these deer were during black powder and rifle season!!! Oh well, there's always next year. Now that the season is over I can get back to picking!
