I was reading a post today about playing without a capo and someone suggested using chord melodies. I have also experimented with those types of melodies, and found it to be really nice. My first piece was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." A nice arrangement is starting with the chord melody, then moving to a scruggs style. Good luck with it.
