Getting enough volume from a Single Mic

Just got done playing a show in san marcos, TX. My home. We tried the single-mic setup for the first time. We chose the audio technica 4033 CL. Killer mic. Great sound quality. Volume was somewhat of a problem and we played on the verge of feedback the whole night. Any suggestions?
