Got a guitar for Christmas 1959. Got my first banjo six months later. Listened to the Kingston Trio (didn't we all, back in those days?) then the Weavers, then Pete Seeger and then to the New Lost City Ramblers and I was hooked. Started reading the liner notes to NLCR records and realized that my favorite songs often came from Charlie Poole. Made friends with people who had some of the old 78s on reel-to-reel tape and made copies. Got the first County reissues. Kept listening and learning for the next 40 years. Currently play banjo in the Orpheus Supertones (Walt Koken, Clare Milliner, Kellie Allen, me), Waking Up Tillie (Randy Johnson, Terry Burtyk, Kellie Allen, me) and irregularly in Jane's Gang (Jane Rothfield, Allan Carr, Paul Sidlick, Kellie Allen, me)
