Windmill on fire |
I have to ponder upon the wisdom of practicing two songs which are way beyond my skill level and, moreover, move away completely from the clawhammer style. Still, the urge to be able to play a Sufjan song or two is too great to ignore. My goal is to be able to play at least a couple of tunes and maybe hold some rhythm to accompany a guitar before Lowlands.
What is Lowlands you ask? Lowlands is a three day music extravaganza here in the Netherlands, held close to Biddinghuizen. The line-up will be announced May 15th, the only group known to attend thus far is CocoRosie, and the presence of these two lovely ladies alone (see link) is enough reason for me to suffer the € 125 entree fee.
Now then, beyond practicing the bump dit-ty, alternating between G and F, I shall try and master these two songs. The first is, of course, Seven Swans;
D-2---2-----0---0-------------------------
B---1-----1---0-----0-2---2-----2---2-----
G-------2---------2-----2-----2---2-----2-
D-2---------2---------2-----2---------2---
g---------------------------------
D---------------------------------
B-1---1-----0---0-----------------
G---2-----2---0-----0-2---2-2---2-
D-2-----2---2-----2---2-2-----2---
g---------------------------------
(The bridge is lacking)
chorus chords:
D-7-6-4-0-
B-5-5-3-3-
G-5-4-2-2-
D-7-6-4-0-
And the second one is another song by Sufjan called 'The Transfiguration'
C#m? ? ?B? ? ? ?Bm? ? ? A
D---6---6---4---4---4---4---2---2--
B---5---5---4---4---3---3---2---2--
G-----6-------4-------4-------2----
D-6-------4-------4-------2--------
g----------------------------------
("lost in the clouds...):
E? ? ? ?Bm? ? ? D? ? ? ?A
D---2---0---4---4---4---4---2---2--
B---0---2---3---3---3---3---2---2--
G-----1-------4-------2-------2----
D-2-------4-------4-------2--------
g----------------------------------
